The concept was simple: Put two hot guys together and let them go at it undistracted by anyone or anything else except their scene partner.

This movie is different, but a gem of a comedy. The movie is brilliant (and perfect) in its timing, narration (by Nicolas Cage), and unusual cinematography (including from the viewpoint of a toddler). The owner hires a bounty hunter, some of HI's former associates (in prison) escape and try to blackmail the couple, and more hijinx ensue. When Ed discovers she's "barren" (in a hilarious doctor's office scene complete with fallopian tubes model), HI goes back to his criminal ways and decides to take one of the new Arizona Quints born to a local unfinished furniture store owner. They fall in love, wed, and soon try to have a child. The movie is all about Ed (a cop) and HI (a convict she meets in the booking room). If I didn't know it before, I have to admit it now! I decided to give it a go, and realized (bless them), that my grandparents really have no sense of humor. Then, as a college student, a friend told me how much I was missing out on. They couldn't believe how "stupid" it was! Being much younger than I am now, I took their word for it. This is the one they picked, and they were sorely disappointed. I'll never forget the day my grandparents finally decided to go see a movie after eighteen years. Sure, the case could be made for movies like Some Like it Hot or MASH, but this one is a classic, too. The film is a treat for the ears and the eyes, a one-of-a-kind sensation from a marvelous pair of filmmakers.Īs far as comedies go, I'm not sure that there's a better one out there than Raising Arizona. Carter Burwell's score, replete with infectious yodeling, is relentless, Barry Sonnenfeld's cinematography is beautifully wacky, and the manic dialogue is the brothers' most quotable. RAISING ARIZONA is the Coen brothers' most consistently funny film. So if she wants a baby, she's going to have a baby, one way or another.Heading up the supporting cast of bizarre characters are John Goodman and William Forsythe as crazy cousins who have just busted out of prison, Sam McMurray and Frances McDormand as Ed and H.I.'s swinging friends, and Randall "Tex" Cobb as a motorcycle madman hired to rescue the baby. Nicolas Cage is her husband, H.I., an ex-con who wants nothing more than to make his wife the happiest woman in the world. Holly Hunter stars as Ed, a cop who is devastated when she learns that she cannot get pregnant. Thus begins the Coen brothers' madcap romp RAISING ARIZONA.
A childless couple unable to adopt decide that a couple who just had quintuplets won't mind if they steal one of the babies.
